FUNNY PLANTS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD

These are probably somebody’s nightmare invasive species plants, but when I saw these as I was driving down the snow-covered dirt road they caught my eye.  The dried leaves catch the blowing snow in a bit of a scoop – they are really more like huge dried seed pods than leaves now that I think about it.  I’m curious what they looked like in the summer with a flower of some sort.

It is fun to have rural roads to explore, and again I’m pleased to have been given the time to get out and take some photos on Sunday.

It was a grey day, but what would I expect in January in Montana?

Funny old plants, aren’t they?

  1. Lovely photos. The plant looks like Millkweed home for many beetles and food for many butterflies.

Milkweed! I love that stuff, weed or not. Gorgeous in the fall when all the seeds fly loose.

Oh, milkweed was going to be my guess too 🙂 We used to play with it in the summer as kids. It gives off a sticky, white sap. Wonderful captures!

  4. Nice shots, love the texture of the pods. Another vote for milk weed here. If you want to see what the flower looks like in the summer you can check out the first photo in this blog entry.
